History of Rivers West District
After a lengthy review of the Sport, Culture and Recreation Delivery System in Saskatchewan, SaskSport, SaskCulture and Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) developed a plan whereby the delivery system would be stream-lined.
This plan included the amalgamation of the Regional Recreation Associations with the Zone Sports Councils (with the exception of Zones #2 Regina & #6 Saskatoon) to create nine new Sport, Culture & Recreation Districts.
Rivers West DSCR was born out of the amalgamation of the Battlefords Recreation Association, River Junction Recreation Association, Wild Goose Recreation Association and the Zone 7 Sports Council.
This amalgamation process began in the fall of 2004. The Transition Team consisted of members from all four of the amalgamating organizations and included (over the course of the process):
